Becoming HER: Parenting Troubled Tween and Teen Girls

In an era where tween and teenage girls confront an array of challenges, from dwindling self-esteem to navigating the perils of social media, the need for robust, informed parenting has never been more critical. Recognizing this urgent demand, Girls of Impact, a beacon for young women’s empowerment in Trinidad and Tobago, proudly announces a groundbreaking two-phased initiative, which is strategically launched in alignment with International Women’s Day. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering resilience and positive development in young women, equipping them to thrive in a complex world.
International Women's Day
EMPOWER Her is a Programme that commemorates International Women’s Day which is an annual international observance celebrated on 8th March annually that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. It is a day to recognize and honour the progress made towards gender equality while acknowledging the challenges that still exist.
International Women’s Day serves as a call to action, urging individuals and communities to work towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all. From commemorating women’s achievements to advocating for women’s rights, the day amplifies the voices and contributions of women, fostering a global movement for positive change and empowerment.

The Virtual Foundation
Our journey begins with an interactive virtual session designed exclusively for parents, led by the esteemed Psychologist Dr. Royette Williams-James. This seminar, more than just a webinar,
is a vital touchstone for parents grappling with the complexities of raising daughters amid the tumult of puberty. Here, Dr. Williams-James will unveil 30 transformative strategies aimed at
bolstering parents’ skills in navigating their daughters’ turbulent years. From enhancing communication to effective discipline in the heat of frustration, this session promises to arm parents with the knowledge and tools essential for guiding their daughters through these formative years. This foundational phase is not just about averting risky behaviors; it’s about laying the groundwork for lifelong success and well-being.
The In-Person Engagement
Building on the insights and strategies shared in Phase I, Phase II transitions into a more intimate, in-person format. Given the delicate nature of our audience, we propose two tailored
approaches, inviting feedback to select the most impactful path:
1. Parent & Daughter Workshop: A collaborative, interactive session where both parents and daughters engage in open dialogues, activities, and workshops designed to strengthen their bond, improve communication, and jointly tackle the challenges of
adolescence.
2. Girls-Only Empowerment Session: An exclusive gathering for the girls, focusing on self-esteem, resilience, and personal growth. Led by motivational speakers and mentors, this session aims to provide a safe space for girls to explore their identities, discuss challenges, and discover their strengths.
The Virtual Engagement will take place on Friday 8th March 2024 at 5:30pm where presenter Dr. Royette Williams-James will explore 30 strategies to help parents navigate parenting their daughters successfully.
