Media Release: Accelerate Her Summer Mentorship Programme 2024 Graduation Ceremony

Feature Speaker, Senator the Honorable, Renuka Segarmsingh-Sooklal, Minister in the  Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs, encouraged  the young women to take personal responsibility for their lives, aligning their passions with purpose while exercising patience, as well as , ensuring that one hundred percent effort is given to all their endeavors, during her delivery of the Feature Address at the Graduation Ceremony of the 2nd Cohort of the Girls of Impact Trinidad and Tobago (GOI),  ‘Accelerate Her’ Summer Mentorship Programme, which was held on Saturday 07th September 2024 at the Maitagual Community Centre in San Juan.

Founder and Executive Director of Girls of Impact, Renee Atwell, also echoed the aforementioned sentiments as she thanked the programme’s Mentors and Mentees for their efforts, dedication and commitment throughout the ten (10) week Mentorship programme.  Ms. Atwell, who presented the Overview of the Accelerate Her Programme, reiterated the key purpose and goal  of the Programme, which is  to  equip participants with the requisite and essential skills, knowledge, and support that  will propel  the advancement within their personal and professional lives.

Similarly, Ms. Grand T&T, Kristina James, in her delivery of an Inspirational Message, encouraged the audience to be relentless in their pursuit of success through hard work and consistency in the all that they do.

Approximately thirty-one (31) Graduates and Mentees received their Certificates of Completion at the ceremony. The Mentors and Workshop Facilitators, GOI Founding Members and other specially invited guests were also in attendance at the graduation ceremony.

In addition to Testimonials given by selected Mentors and Mentees, the following special awards were distributed to recognize the outstanding efforts and contributions made by individuals during the Accelerate Her Programme:

  • Trailblazer Award – Presented to Mentee who demonstrated exceptional commitment, engagement and personal growth throughout the Accelerate Her Programme.
  • Inspiring Leader Award – Presented to Mentee who demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities, dedication and initiative throughout the Accelerate Her programme.
  • Phoenix Award for Perseverance – Presented to Mentee who has faced significant personal adversities but has shown remarkable resilience and determination throughout the Accelerate Her Programme.
  • Visionary Leader Award – Presented to Mentee who has not only demonstrated exceptional commitment and engagement throughout the programme but has been marked by exemplary dedication, engagement and leadership.
  • Social Media Challenge Award – Awarded to the group that utilized social media to effectively create and execute a social media campaign that created positive awareness relative to an issue that they are passionate about.

The Accelerate Her Mentorship Programme, a calendar Programme of the GOI , currently in its 2nd Cohort, featured an empowering 10-week hybrid program, catering to women ages 15-30, and  commenced on 06th July 2024 and concluded on 07th September 2024. The programme comprised dynamic small group mentorship sessions, intensive workshops on career development and advancement, and dynamic leadership training as detailed below:

  • Orientation and Launch of Mentorship Programme- 06th July 2024- Guest Speaker – Leslie Ann Jerome (In person Session)
  • Personal Branding Workshop : 15th July 2024 – Facilitator – Lleon George (Online Session)
  • Leadership Seminar- July 22nd 2024 – Guest Speaker- Abigail Meah- Ali (Online Session)
  • Career Workshop- 03rd August 2024 – Facilitator Murlin Baird (In person Session)
  • Mental Health Awareness Session – August 12th 2024- Guest Speaker – Cindy Andrews (Online Session)
  • Career Advancement Workshop – August 24th 2024 Guest Speakers (Loyette Williams-Morris, Jamila Bannister and Toni Marie Noel (Online Session)

This vibrant NGO, which aims to empower young women and girls in T&T between the ages of 15 – 30, through mentorship, leadership training and volunteerism was officially launched on 25th June 2022. The Girls of Impact is a community for ambitious and impactful young women who desire to succeed in education, career, and entrepreneurship. The organization was created out of a need to foster a community for underprivileged young women to access resources to succeed in life while creating a lasting social impact.

The Girls of Impact wishes to congratulate all mentees on their  achievement and extend  a sincere thank you to our Mentors, Corporate sponsors (Ambrosial Gourmet Catering, Angostura Trinidad, Universal Foods and Kiss Baking Company), for their contribution to making  this event a success.

The GOI anticipates the exciting roll out of several upcoming events, during the next quarter, including an GOI Themed Tea Party, Glow Aerobics Burnout Fundraiser and  Workshop in commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child in October 2024.
