Media Release: Girls of Impact hosts Digital Literacy and Leadership Workshop for the Mayaro Community
On Saturday 14th October 2023, the Girls of Impact Trinidad and Tobago, hosted a one (1) day workshop titled “Empower HER: Leading with Literacy” for approximately eleven (11) young women of the Mayaro District. The session, which comprised of five (5) interactive presentations, was structured to equip and empower young women within the community, with essential digital skills and knowledge on leadership development.
Participants were exposed to a host of valuable information from subject matter expects within their fields. The following speakers facilitated presentations on the following topics:
- Introduction to Leadership: Cherice Job – Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Girls of Impact T&T, delivered on the importance of leadership , various styles and leadership development
- Understanding Digital Literacy and Using Digital Tools and Resources: Wendy Karmath – Software Developer, focused on the importance of digital literacy, various digital tools and terminologies and its relevance in the modern world.
- Effective Communication and Self Expression: Renee Atwell -Founder and Executive Director of Girls of Impact T&T, outlined effective communication skills, and strategies for confident communication.
- Digital Wellness: Huda Ibrahiim – Director Programmes, Girls of Impact T&T, highlighted the definition and importance of digital wellness and the key aspects, including screen management and social media use.
The session concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, where the young women expressed their gratitude to the GOI for the invaluable knowledge and experience gained. This workshop will continue within the upcoming month with digital literacy mentorship sessions. This workshop precedes the GOI’s first ‘Accelerate Her’ Programme, a female focused career mentorship accelerator mentorship programme, which was launched in 2022, and aimed at equipping young girls and women who desire professional and personal guidance to help them move forward into the working world.
