Empower Her Rural Girls Programme

BRINGING OPPORTUNITIES CLOSER TO GIRLS
Empower Her is Girls of Impact's flagship rural girls programme, designed to expand access to empowerment, education and personal development opportunities for girls in rural and underserved communities. Rather than bringing the same programme into every community, we listen first. We work with schools, community organisations and local stakeholders to understand the needs of the girls they serve and develop relevant, engaging experiences that respond to those realities. Because where a girl lives should never determine the opportunities available to her.

MEETING GIRLS WHERE THEY ARE

Different communities. Different needs. One commitment to girls.

Girls growing up in rural and underserved communities may have fewer opportunities to access mentorship, professional role models, development programmes, health information and other resources that support their growth.

Empower Her was created to help bring those opportunities closer.

The programme takes a community-responsive approach, allowing each edition to focus on issues that are particularly relevant to the girls participating.

This means Empower Her may look different from one community to another, and that is intentional.

Our aim is not to deliver a programme to a community.

We work with communities to create experiences that are relevant to their girls.

HOW EMPOWER HER WORKS

LISTEN: Understand the community.

We engage schools, community organisations and local stakeholders to better understand the experiences, interests and needs of the girls they serve.

DESIGN: Build around what girls need.

Programme themes and activities are tailored to the community and participants rather than relying on a single standardised curriculum.

EQUIP: Provide practical knowledge and skills.

Girls participate in interactive workshops and activities designed to strengthen their knowledge, confidence and ability to navigate issues affecting their lives.

CONNECT: Bring opportunities closer.

We connect girls with professionals, facilitators, role models, organisations and resources that can expand their knowledge and exposure.

EMPOWER: Help girls recognise their own agency.

Girls leave the programme encouraged to use their voices, make informed decisions, pursue opportunities and recognise their ability to create change in their own lives and communities.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

A global moment to invest in girls.

International Day of the Girl is observed annually on 11 October and provides an important opportunity to recognise girls’ rights, experiences and potential.

Empower Her has been one of the ways Girls of Impact has marked this occasion, bringing empowerment activities directly into communities and creating spaces for girls to learn, participate and use their voices.

As the programme grows, Empower Her will continue to create opportunities for girls throughout the year, while International Day of the Girl remains an important moment for outreach and advocacy.

BRING EMPOWER HER TO YOUR COMMUNITY

We want to hear from schools and community organisations.

If you work with girls in a rural or underserved community and believe Empower Her could respond to an identified need, we welcome opportunities to explore collaboration.

Programme delivery is subject to Girls of Impact’s programme calendar, available resources, safeguarding requirements and partnership capacity.
