Girls' Empowerment & Wellbeing

Creating spaces where girls can grow, thrive and know their worth.

Every girl deserves the opportunity to grow with confidence, access the information and resources she needs, and feel supported as she navigates adolescence and early adulthood.

Girls of Impact creates supportive spaces where girls and young women can strengthen their confidence, develop personally, access knowledge and resources that contribute to their wellbeing, and build the skills to advocate for themselves and others.

We place particular emphasis on expanding access for girls who may have fewer opportunities because of geography, socioeconomic circumstances or limited access to development programmes and support networks.

Our goal is simple: girls who are informed, confident, supported and equipped to thrive.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

Empowerment starts with access.

A girl’s ability to thrive is shaped by much more than what happens in the classroom.

Confidence, access to accurate information, supportive relationships, health and wellbeing, exposure to positive role models and opportunities for personal development can all influence how girls see themselves and the futures they imagine.

Yet not every girl has equal access to these resources and opportunities.

Our work seeks to help close that gap by bringing relevant, accessible and responsive programmes directly to girls and the communities in which they live and learn.

WHAT WE FOCUS ON

Our girls’ empowerment and wellbeing work responds to the different experiences and needs girls may encounter as they grow.

Confidence & Self-Development

Creating opportunities for girls to strengthen their confidence, understand their value, identify their strengths and develop a positive sense of self.

Health & Wellbeing

Increasing access to age-appropriate information and conversations that support girls’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

Menstrual Health & Dignity

Supporting greater awareness of menstrual health while helping expand access to menstrual products and reduce stigma around menstruation.

Voice & Self-Advocacy

Helping girls develop the confidence and communication skills to express themselves, understand their rights, ask questions and advocate for their needs.

Healthy Relationships & Support Networks

Encouraging positive relationships, peer support and access to trusted adults, mentors and role models.

Access & Inclusion

Bringing opportunities to girls who may be underserved because of geography, socioeconomic circumstances or limited access to programmes, networks and resources.

OUR SIGNATURE PROGRAMME

EMPOWER HER RURAL GIRLS PROGRAMME

Meeting girls where they are.

Empower Her is Girls of Impact’s flagship rural girls initiative, designed to expand access to empowerment and development opportunities for girls in communities that may have fewer opportunities to participate in traditional youth programmes.

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, we work with schools and community partners to understand the needs of the girls they serve and design workshops and activities that respond to those realities.

Different communities. Different realities. Responsive programmes.

We believe effective empowerment begins with listening.

Girls in different communities may experience different barriers, priorities and opportunities. Our approach therefore allows programmes to respond to the realities of the girls participating rather than assuming that every community needs the same intervention.

We work with schools, community organisations, professionals and local stakeholders to identify relevant needs and create experiences that are practical, engaging and appropriate for participants.

This approach allows us to bring empowerment opportunities closer to girls, particularly those who may not otherwise have easy access to them.

MENSTRUAL HEALTH & DIGNITY

Periods should never be a barrier to participation.

Menstrual health is an important part of girls’ health, dignity and wellbeing.

Through education, advocacy, partnerships and product distribution, Girls of Impact works to support girls’ access to menstrual health information and essential products while contributing to more open and informed conversations about menstruation.

Our menstrual health initiatives prioritise communities where access to resources may be more limited and create opportunities for partners and supporters to contribute directly to meeting practical needs.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

Celebrating girls. Investing in their futures.

International Day of the Girl provides an important opportunity to centre the experiences, rights and potential of girls.

Each year, Girls of Impact uses the occasion to engage girls through outreach, education, empowerment activities and community partnerships.

Our activities respond to issues affecting girls while creating spaces for them to learn, participate, ask questions and recognise the power of their own voices.

EMPOWERMENT BEYOND A WORKSHOP

We want girls to leave with something they can carry with them.

For us, empowerment is not simply about creating an inspiring experience for one day.

We want girls participating in our initiatives to leave with greater:

  • Confidence in themselves
  • Knowledge about issues affecting their lives
  • Ability to communicate and advocate for themselves
  • Access to useful information and resources
  • Connection to positive peers, mentors and role models
  • Belief in their ability to shape their futures

As our work grows, we will continue listening to girls and communities to understand where support is needed and how Girls of Impact can respond meaningfully.
