Our Approach

CREATING THE CONDITIONS FOR YOUNG WOMEN TO LEAD

At Girls of Impact, we believe potential alone is not enough. Girls and young women also need access to knowledge, supportive networks, meaningful opportunities and spaces where their voices are valued.

Our approach goes beyond one-off empowerment activities. We create opportunities for girls and young women to develop their capabilities, build relationships, put their leadership into practice and contribute to the issues and communities that matter to them.

EQUIP

We equip girls and young women with practical skills and knowledge that support their personal, professional and leadership development.

Through workshops, mentorship, training and experiential learning, participants build capabilities in areas such as leadership, career readiness, communication, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, advocacy and sustainable development.

CONNECT

Access to the right people and opportunities can change the trajectory of a young woman’s life.

We connect girls and young women with mentors, professionals, peers, organisations and opportunities that can broaden their perspectives and expand what they believe is possible.

ACTIVATE

We believe leadership is developed by doing.

Girls and young women are encouraged to apply what they learn through volunteerism, community projects, advocacy, leadership opportunities and other forms of meaningful participation.

AMPLIFY

Young women should not only benefit from decisions about their communities, they should help shape them.

We create platforms for girls and young women to share their experiences, contribute ideas, participate in conversations and advocate on issues that affect their lives and futures.

WHO WE SERVE

Girls and young women at different stages of their journey.

Girls of Impact primarily works with girls and young women ages 15-35, recognising that their needs, experiences and aspirations vary significantly across adolescence, education, early careers and emerging leadership.

Our programmes and initiatives are designed for different stages of that journey.

We place particular emphasis on expanding access for young women who may face barriers because of geography, socioeconomic circumstances or limited access to professional networks and development opportunities.

We work in schools, communities and professional spaces, while creating opportunities for young women from different backgrounds to learn from and support one another.

OUR PROGRAMME PILLARS

Our programmes and initiatives are organised across five interconnected areas.

Leadership & Career Development: Preparing young women to navigate education, employment, entrepreneurship and leadership with greater confidence, skills and access to professional networks.

Girls’ Empowerment & Wellbeing: Creating supportive spaces where girls can strengthen their confidence, develop personally and access information and resources that contribute to their wellbeing.

Climate & Sustainable Development: Building the knowledge and capacity of young women to understand, engage with and lead on climate and sustainable development issues affecting Caribbean communities.

Civic Leadership & Advocacy: Creating opportunities for young women to understand the issues affecting their communities, participate in meaningful dialogue and strengthen their ability to advocate for change.

Community Action: Turning leadership into service by supporting young women to volunteer, design community initiatives and contribute directly to solving challenges around them.

HOW WE WORK

Programmes: We design and deliver structured learning and development experiences that respond to the needs of girls and young women.

Mentorship: We connect young women with people, institutions and peers who can provide guidance, exposure and access to new possibilities.

Community Action: We create opportunities for young women to practise leadership through volunteering and locally led projects.

Partnerships: We collaborate with the private sector, civil society, government, diplomatic missions, educational institutions and development partners to expand opportunities and strengthen our impact.

OUR REGIONAL APPROACH

Rooted locally. Connected regionally.

Girls of Impact was founded in Trinidad and Tobago, but many of the challenges and opportunities facing young women extend across national borders.

Our regional approach combines strong local presence with Caribbean collaboration.

As we expand, our aim is not simply to replicate the same programme in every country. We work with young women and local stakeholders to understand the realities of each community and adapt our initiatives accordingly, while maintaining a shared Girls of Impact mission, standards and approach.

Through country-based initiatives, regional programmes, digital engagement, partnerships and cross-Caribbean networks, we aim to create more opportunities for young women to learn from one another and collaborate across borders.

Our long-term vision is a connected community of young Caribbean women who are equipped to lead locally while contributing to the development of the wider region.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

For us, impact is more than attendance. We want girls and young women to leave our programmes with:

  • Stronger skills and confidence.
  • Expanded networks and access to opportunities.
  • Greater readiness for education, careers and leadership.
  • Practical experience applying their leadership.
  • Greater confidence participating in conversations and decisions that affect them.
  • A stronger commitment to contributing to their communities.

And ultimately, we want to see more young Caribbean women leading, participating and creating change.
