Governance & Accountability

Building trust through responsible leadership.

At Girls of Impact, good governance is fundamental to achieving our mission. We recognise the responsibility that comes with working with girls and young women, managing resources entrusted to us and partnering with communities and institutions across the Caribbean.

As we grow, we are committed to strengthening the systems, policies and practices that ensure Girls of Impact remains responsible, transparent, accountable and focused on the people we serve.

HOW WE ARE GOVERNED

Girls of Impact Trinidad & Tobago is governed by a Board of Directors, which provides oversight and helps safeguard the organisation’s mission, integrity and long-term sustainability.

The Board’s responsibilities include oversight of organisational strategy, governance, financial accountability, risk and compliance.

Day-to-day management and programme delivery are led by the Executive Director and Executive Team, supported by coordinators and volunteers across the organisation’s portfolios.

Maintaining a clear distinction between governance and management helps ensure appropriate oversight while enabling the Executive Team to effectively deliver the organisation’s work.

OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY

We are accountable to the girls, young women, communities and partners who make our work possible.

Our approach to accountability is guided by several commitments.

Responsible Governance

We maintain governance structures designed to provide appropriate oversight, responsible decision-making and accountability to our mission.

Financial Stewardship

We are committed to using funds and resources responsibly and for the purposes for which they are entrusted to us.

As our organisation grows, we continue to strengthen our financial management, reporting and oversight systems to support transparency and long-term sustainability.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

We seek to understand not only how many people participate in our programmes, but what difference those programmes make.

We use participant feedback, programme data and other forms of evaluation to assess our work, identify lessons and strengthen future programmes.

Safeguarding

The safety, dignity and wellbeing of the girls and young women who engage with our organisation are fundamental to our work.

We are committed to maintaining appropriate safeguarding standards, procedures and reporting mechanisms across our programmes and activities.

Ethical Partnerships

We seek partnerships that align with our mission and values and contribute positively to the girls, young women and communities we serve.

Continuous Improvement

We recognise that strong organisations are always learning.

As Girls of Impact grows locally and regionally, we continue to review and strengthen our governance, policies, systems and practices to meet the responsibilities that come with that growth.

Our policies help translate our values and responsibilities into consistent organisational practice. Key policies and frameworks include:

Safeguarding Policy
Sets out our approach to protecting children, young people and other participants who engage with our work.

Code of Conduct
Establishes the standards of behaviour expected from team members, volunteers and others representing Girls of Impact.

Financial Management Policy
Provides a framework for responsible financial administration, controls and oversight.

Volunteer Framework

RESPONSIBLE GROWTH

Stronger systems. Greater impact.

Girls of Impact began as a grassroots organisation with an ambitious vision for girls and young women.

As that vision expands across the Caribbean, we recognise that our organisational systems must grow with it.

We are therefore investing in stronger governance, financial management, safeguarding, monitoring and evaluation, programme standards and organisational policies to ensure that regional growth is both responsible and sustainable.

Our ambition is not simply to become a larger organisation. It is to become a stronger one.
